Super Size Me

Well, we’ll see who ends up on top after this, silly facists.

Title: Super Size Me
Genre (Movie): Documentary
Description: Regular guy goes on a 30-day McDonald’s diet to see what happens. Hilarity ensues. Because he gets fat.
Quickrating: 7/10

Everyone knows that fast food is bad for you. It makes you fat, it makes you sick, it has little to no redeeming nutritional value, etc. etc. etc. But after several recent lawsuits (see: Law System), people’s focus has been drawn back to America’s glutenizer. (Ooo…I like that. I’m gonna get that patented.) This film was made to test out McDonald’s claim that their food could be used as a normal, healthy, everyday diet. The basic premise is that this guy, who is actually more than healthy and has great blood pressure, body fat, etc. etc. etc., (Hell, his girlfriend is a vegan chef. But she’s really annoying) goes on a 30 day McDiet, with the following requirements:
He must eat nothing but McD’s for 30 days.
He must have 3 square meals a day.
He must eat everything on the menu at least once in those 30 days.
He must SuperSize it if they ask.

He also gets three doctors and a dietician who oversee him through these 30 days. And it begins.

Now, I’ve been seeing a few remarks about how this movie is inaccurate. I will now prove these wrong. Or rather, I will now prove Aneesh wrong.

Whiny complaint #1: “It’s not a real diet! He eats all of the worst stuff for you on the menu!”
Wrong. He says before he starts that he will eat at least one of everything off the menu. Therefore, he’s simply eating all of their options.

Whiny complaint #2: “You can do this and not get fat, he’s just not watching his calories!”
That’s the point. He’s not trying to watch his calories when he eats, he’s supposed to eat like a normal person, and just eat until he’s full. Otherwise he’d have to like….stop 1/3 of the way through a burger and eat 3 fries.

Whiny complaint #3: “That movie’s biased. He simply fills you with lies!”
Actually, the movie was very good about researching its stuff. It checks with nutritionists, CEOs of food advertising companies, lawyers, etc. etc. etc. Everything it says has been pretty heavily researched.

Whiny complaint #4: “That’s not realistic. No one eats there 3 times a day.”
You’d be surprised. I know several people who come very close to that. And I’ve heard of several others. And they’re not exactly slim, either. Besides, at the end of the movie, the guy admits it may be a little extreme, but it was an experiment, after all. Plus, he does mention that several people come close to that statistic.

Whiny complaint #5: “You know, I heard a McDonald’s person did that 30 day diet thing and was fine.”
Yeah, and the McDonald’s guy probably went to a gym regularily, ate only portions of what he ordered, and didn’t follow all of the rules that SuperSize Me did.

You have been shut down.
As for the movie, it’s definitely interesting, but if it tells you anything you don’t already know, you should get a reality check. The DVDs got some nice extras which are worth checking out, and overall the movie’s pretty well done. But some parts can get very annoying (i.e. main song, girlfriend), and the whole premise of the movie is to tell you that fast food is unhealthy. Seeing as you really won’t walk away with anything but that, don’t bend over backwards to see it. Just do it if you have the chance.

“After he’s started this diet, he’s lost a lot of….energy. I always have to be on top.” –Annoying McDiet Guy’s Girlfriend

Woman. She was a woman. Hmmm…She didn’t follow all of the rules that SSM did….That COMPLETELY discredits anything she says becuase she is the evil bourgeois kapitalist pig.

And learn to get your quotes right, Bloon Babe.

And it’s called a “legal system”, not a “law system.”
