No snarky comments about the lack of reviews recently, alright? I do what I can.
Title: Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
Genre: Sacha Cohen being funny.
Description: Comedian Sacha Cohen uses the personage of Borat, a Kazakhi news reporter, to embarass Americans.
Quickrating: 9/10
Borat is one of those movies that when it comes out, you instantly think, “Damn, those white people are going to complain about how morally bad this movie is, aren’t they?” Every once in a while, there’s a film that pushes the border of “racy”. Borat takes that trophy and steals a few others, too.
The premise of Borat is comedian Sacha Cohen, also known for the “Ali-G Show”, taking on the role Borat Sagdiyev, a made-up Kazakhi reporter. Borat’s here in America to research how to better his own country. He starts in New York City and eventually makes his way across the US to California. Along the way he interviews people who believe him to be a geniune Kazakhi reporter. Hilarity ensues.
Borat is sexist, racist, hairy, and completely unaware of personal space. He makes comments that (should) offend just about anybody. He loves high fives. He hates Uzbekistan. And he is deathly afraid of Jews.
The irony of the film is not how offensive Borat can be, but rather how offensive the Americans he talks to are. Whether it’s college students who belittle women just as much (if not more) than Borat, rodeo managers who claim homosexuals should be imprisoned and executed, or crowds who cheer at Borat’s wish for the Americans to “spill the blood of every man, woman, and child in Iraq”, you realize just how bad Americans can be. The movie is completely unscripted, so every American he talks to is a real person. The only people pretending are Borat and his manager.
Of course, that’s not to say that Borat isn’t offensive. There’s more than a fair share of bad words, Jew jokes (warranted because Sacha Cohen himself is Jewish), male chauvinism, and a few scenes of nudity. But these are really not things to be taken seriously. The only thing I really ever worried about was how Sacha managed to stay out of jail all this time.
It’s a great movie, though. It actually has a plot (surprise!) which ends in a hilarious stunt that will blow your mind. It has more one-liners than you can shake a Jew at, and you wouldn’t want to be left out on the playground when everyone else is quoting the movie, would you? I imagine that in 20 or so years this will be a comedy classic. I just hope Sacha hasn’t been arrested by then.
“But in my country, there is problem. Social, economic…and Jew.”

Brilliant review. Couldn’t agree more. Loved this movie myself. Everyone should see it. I look forward to more of your witticisms and criticisms. Bravo!
Good review, and thank you for realizing that he is slamming Americans in particular, middle class whites, instead of third world nations and jews. He pushes the politically correct border on femenism, anti-seminism, homosexuality and other various things
I’m pretty sure he actually takes that border and smashes it to itty bitty pieces with a wooden mallet.
Twice.
Blade, yes i call you blade, and BloonChick chick, and the currently not here Ibloon, shall be called I. However, that could become confusing so I will call Ibloon, bloon then and of course there’s Micro and Random, a bunch of posers. Just kidding. However in your Weekly Bloon thread, you said that Micro/Random was going to start a thread, and where is it?
Everyone calls him Blade. That’s nothing new :).
And awesome revieww Bloonyblade! I wanna see it this weekend. Too bad I have a tourney
I’m harassing them both, MP. I do my best. Unfortunately, I have no power over free will.
Yet.
And may I say that I rarely know what you’re saying? Perhaps you should use…oh, I don’t know…real sentences? With grammar and punctuation?
Heaven forbid.
Look its hard being a growing African-American male in a predominately white society. When I am posting on the Bloon I am careless, I believe. When I was a young boy, … .(Creed lyrics i think, my sacrifice) I care about my public image on the bloon, meaning grammar and punctuation a little more than the Blade cares about his public image at his school. Yeah, I care, but mainly I post what comes from the heart when I am on teh bloon and little grammitical errors like “grammatical” being spelled incorrectly are on purpose to illustrate or get a point across. I’ll try and work on it. Look I said Blade, and Chick, instead of their less cool birth names.
Coherency–it’s a wonderful thing.
Brilliant review, Blade..I personally still need to catch this one.
Hey everyone, I know it’s been forever, and I’m not going to try and wriggle my way out with excuses. Alright, mabye just one, theatre has caused me to loose my social life over the past few weeks (and whatever kind of life you could call being the poster on TheDailyBloon)
Anyway, I was just about to leave an awesome new post, a review on FF12, for the fans of the series out there…
but it wont let me login, so Blade….a lil help?
whats the error message when u try to log in, random
Why can’t people seem to be able to spell ‘lose’ right anymore. ‘Loose’ is completely different for crying out loud…
haha you’re right, Fyorl, it’s a mistake that I seem to make often. I should work on it…
And uh….there’s not so much as a error message as a “Random can’t remember his Username and Password” situation.
:hangs head in shame:
haahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
This movie. Was so awesome.
