What do you mean? It was rigged in the first one, what with the scope and all, so they took the scope off it for Halo 2.

Bungie realized that the pistol in Halo was terribly overpowered. It was essentially a one-handed sniper rifle, so they turned it into . . . a pistol. In Halo, it was mostly being used as a “noob cannon.”

I’ll admit it was pretty powerful but it did look really powerful and shiny and it was only really useful at close range. Which is why he got annoyed.
And yeah, he attempted to take a bite out of his controller frequently, as if it would somehow make him play better.
They should have kept its power in Halo 2, the pistols are effectively useless now. Not that I mind… I have my carbine…
No, they shouldn’t have. They made the correct call in making it weaker. It was way overpowered. And have you ever duel wielded a pistol and a plasma rifle? That is about the most effective weapon combo in the game.
The carbine is amazing, but I still prefer the battle rifle.
Fyorl, it’s a pistol. A pistol is supposed to be a side-arm. In the first game, you could take down people on the other side of Hang’em High with the “pistol.” In Halo 2, they decided to give you an actual pistol, not a one-handed rifle.
If you got taken down by a pistol on hang-em-high then maybe you should consider playing an easier game.
Seriously though, they’re futuristic weapons. Someone might have decided it was a good idea to make a very compact gun capable of extreme firepower. Seriously, read the description of the weapon in the Halo manual…
Yeah, but it should be Aliens futuristic. The idea of a sniper rifle that you stablize with a pistol grip, and nothing else, is stupid. If you want to realistically use a scoped weapon, you need some sort of a stock. How else can you overcome the constant shakiness of your hands?

Bungie realized their error in making it so unrealistic, and they changed it. It still works well in Halo 2, just as long as you use it in the way it’s meant to be used. And there are so many other weapons that can do what the pistol did in the first one, it’s hardly worth moaning about.

dude noob cannon = primary single wielded plasma rifle, charge it up let it go it is homing removes energy sheild completly, then press “Y” and switch and hammer them with the battle rifle

But the plasma rifle in itself isn’t overpowered, just the way in which it’s used. The pistol from the first one was just plain overpowered.
